First Verse
Custody or program entry
Lyric writing and discussion build economic vocabulary and self-awareness.
Financial Insight through Restorative Storytelling
How it works
The programs are designed as a continuum, from custody or program entry, through reentry, to publication. Every stage is also complete on its own, so a person can enter at the point that fits their life right now.

Shared foundations
Land, Labor, Capital and Entrepreneurship organize every lesson, always in the same colors.
The frameworkEvery session follows the same 12 steps, so participants know what comes next and any trained facilitator can pick up any week.
Half of every session is hands-on: writing, beat-making, recording. Nobody leaves without having made something.
Every reflection, journal entry and share-out is opt-in. “Pass” is always an acceptable answer.
Lyrics are never corrected, graded or used as behavioral evidence. Peer feedback is strengths-first and only on craft.
The crowned figure stands for the participant: inside the system, moving through it with intention.
Inside a session
Predictable structure lowers stress. Participants recognize the rhythm by week two and can focus on the work.
The 12-week arc
Weeks 1–8 are First Verse. Weeks 9–12 are Next Verse. Milestone check-ins at weeks 4, 8 and 12 mark progress without grading anyone’s art.
Continuity of relationship
Next Verse continues with the same facilitator, the same language and the same structure from custody into the community. A mid-arc handoff to a stranger is avoided wherever possible.
Start anywhere
No one has to finish one stage to earn the next. The stages connect best as a continuum, and each one is a complete experience for whoever starts there.
Start at First Verse
Name the system, learn the Four Factors, write and record, and finish with a First Verse Blueprint and a mixed song.
First VerseStart at Next Verse
A 15–20 minute warm-up in week 9 covers the essentials. New and continuing participants share the same room and reach the same week-12 outcomes.
Next VerseStart at Last Verse
Last Verse is planned as a home for releasing work, building a portfolio and staying connected, for program participants and graduates. For review
Last VerseAlongside the music
The creative work builds habits that carry into school, work and home. These skills grow together rather than in a fixed order.
